POKOTABI / Isono
網焼きと釜飯 いその
This izakaya brings together dishes to build a meal around, from oysters cooked in a kettle and raw oysters to sea bream kamameshi, sashimi and more. Enjoy them with dashi omelette and yakitori, whether stopping in for lunch or dinner.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Make oysters the centrepiece, or gather around a pot of kamameshi. At Isono, sashimi and dashi omelette offer other ways to shape the meal. Diners have ordered raw oysters, oysters cooked in a kettle, the day’s sashimi delivered directly from the Central Market and yakitori; some also mention enjoying the salmon roe kamameshi and tuna sashimi.
Oysters are a particular highlight, served raw, grilled or cooked in a kettle and eaten with dashi. One diner appreciated having the oysters shucked for them, a small touch that adds to the pleasure of sharing the dish. Another enjoyed oysters with chilled sake. For a meal built around seafood, try the kettle-cooked oysters or sashimi, then finish with kamameshi.
Sea bream kamameshi is among the options, and one diner who ordered the salmon roe version said it made a lasting impression. Other seafood choices include the day’s sashimi, bluefin tuna and sea bream head, either grilled with salt or simmered. These can make a satisfying companion to the rice pot.
For a few smaller dishes, consider the dashi omelette or edamame. One diner singled out edamame served with dashi as an unusual choice; it could make a good bite while waiting for oysters or sashimi. Beyond seafood, the menu includes a two-cut chicken platter of seseri and chicken skirt, offal grilled and served with dashi, and lunchtime options such as homemade spiced curry and set meals.
One family dining with children reported that the restaurant had sunken kotatsu seating and space between tables. A children’s menu is available, and the restaurant is described as suitable for groups, making it an option for sharing a meal with family or friends.
